You may add your own comments after the below text -- We respectfully request that you utilize your authority to reinstate the twelve National Marine Fisheries Service observers in Hawaii. Their presence aboard the Hawaii longline fishing boats is very important to the management effort of our fragile marine resources. We believe that the program should be funded to it's fullest to accomplish a goal of 15 to 20% coverage of the Hawaii based longline fleet. The NMFS' November, 1998 biological opinion acknowledges the inability of the longline fishers to accurately report their interactions with endangered species like the leather back turtle. The observers play an imporant role in protecting our ocean resources. Mahalo.
